ALAC 2019 continues today with on-site programming and events featuring Kit Hammonds, Frederick Janka, Marie Karlberg, Ry Rocklen, Charwei Tsai, Devin Troy Strother and Yuri Ogita. See details below.

Printed Matter Book Signing

Please join Printed Matter for an event with Devin Troy Strother and Yuri Ogita of Coloured Publishing as they sign copies of their recent Printed Matter co-publication A Mistake is a Beautiful Thing.

Ojai, A New Art Mecca?

Join LA-based artist, Ry Rocklen and Frederick Janka, Executive Director of Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation, for a dynamic conversation about what is bringing the contemporary art world to Ojai and Ry’s 2017 (and ongoing) exhibition project in Ojai: Pixievision. Speakers will touch on the founding of the Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation a new non-profit organization based in Ojai, and its opportunities and challenges. Ry was the recipient of the 2017 Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation Art Prize, and both speakers co-curated the exhibition Gut Friends in 2017 that brought a number of LA based artists to Ojai. They will also speak to current and upcoming projects.

Charwei Tsai in conversation with Kit Hammonds

Join Taipei-based multimedia practitioner Charwei Tsai and Kit Hammonds, Curator at Museo Jumex, in a conversation centered on Root of Desire, published in January 2019 on the occasion of Charwei Tsai’s recent solo exhibition at TKG. Root of Desire continues Tsai’s long-term examination of Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna Buddhism and centers around the Vimalakirti Sutra, an ancient spiritual text celebrated for its emphasis on gender equality. When asked “How should one look at a sentient being?” Vimalakirti responded, “the way a wise person looks at the reflection of the moon in water.”
